While this robot was not designed for a specific FRC game, it used FRC parts to solve the challenge of autonomously driving and collecting recycling bins throughout the school. The objective was to make a robot that could collect as many as 6 recycling containers per trip to improve recycling efficienty.
Diag. R7.1: The Recycling Bins (Walmart)
The recycling bins were 27 gallon black and red tote boxes as shown above.
To save on cost, the robot utilized an Octocanum drivebase as it was a standby prototype the team had. The main mechanisms of this robot were a single stage lift that could stack the bins, and an Arm on a Lift design that allowed placement of additional bins under the existing stack of bins.
The robot utilized a LIDAR sensor to navigate through corridors.
This was a personal SAS Catalyst and Quest Project by Ming Jin Yong.
